The alleged shooter, Arvind Thakur (also known as Arvind Parihar), a local contractor with whom Nandini had been in a secret marriage and live-in relationship for roughly three years, intercepted the vehicle in which Nandini was traveling to the police station alongside her boyfriend Ankush and another male companion. Arvind allegedly fired five rounds from a country-made pistol (katta), hitting Nandini four times. As her companions fled, Arvind sat 10 to 15 meters away from the bleeding victim, brandishing his loaded pistol to keep bystanders and police at bay.
