She took Tattappa's phone and asked him to stand at the bridge's edge facing the river. When he turned around, Gadamma allegedly pushed him into the fast-flowing current in an attempt to drown him. Tattappa managed to hold onto a stone in the middle of the river and screamed for help. Passersby on motorcycles and in a pickup truck stopped, threw a rope, and pulled him to safety. After observing that his wife made no effort to help him and realizing she did not want to live with him, Tattappa dropped Gadamma back at her parental home and filed a police complaint following the viral spread of the rescue video.
