In Shamli, Uttar Pradesh, Farooq allegedly murdered his 18-year wife, Tahira, and two of their daughters, 14-year-old Areen and 7-year-old Sehrin, following persistent marital conflicts over low family income, children's education, and religious attire. After Tahira expressed a desire to work to afford schooling for their five children and briefly moved to her maternal home without wearing a burqa, Farooq allegedly planned her killing. He had a 7-foot deep pit dug near his home's washroom septic tank and purchased a pistol in Kairana for ₹3,000. After persuading Tahira to return home, on the night of December 8-9, Farooq woke her under the pretext of making tea and shot her in the kitchen. When Areen rushed out upon hearing the noise, Farooq shot her and gouged out her eye with a wooden stick to prevent exposure. He then strangled his younger daughter Sehrin. Farooq buried all three bodies in the pit, covered it with soil, and misled his remaining three children and in-laws, claiming Tahira and the girls had visited relatives. On December 16, following suspicion from Tahira's family and local villagers, police detained Farooq, who confessed and led authorities to exhume the bodies from the courtyard pit.

Domestic Violence
The relationship exhibited a trajectory of severe coercive control, financial disagreements, and patriarchal hostility. When Tahira challenged Farooq's refusal to educate their children and attempted to seek employment, Farooq interpreted her independence and failure to wear a burqa as a deep insult to his authority and honor. This led to lethal premeditation, where Farooq prepared a body concealment site prior to coaxing his wife back home, ultimately escalating into a triple homicide when witnesses emerged.
Police arrested Farooq after Tahira's father and local village head questioned his false claims that Tahira had moved to her maternal home. Upon interrogation, Farooq confessed and pointed out the concealed septic tank pit near the washroom in his courtyard, leading to the recovery of all three corpses and a blood-stained wooden stick.
Farooq initially misdirected his children, neighbors, and in-laws by claiming his wife and two elder daughters had left for her maternal home. Initial excavation by laborers was challenging due to the extreme depth of the pit and severe decomposition, requiring multiple teams of laborers before uncovering the bodies.
Farooq pre-dug a 7-foot deep pit in his courtyard and acquired a pistol from Kairana. He then persuaded his estranged wife Tahira to return home from her maternal village. On the night of December 8-9, he woke Tahira under the pretense of preparing tea and shot her in the kitchen. When 14-year-old Areen arrived, he shot her and gouged her eye out with a stick, then strangled 7-year-old Sehrin. He buried all three bodies layered in soil inside the pit.
Farooq displayed extreme lethality risk factors including advance acquisition of an illicit firearm, deliberate pre-excavation of a burial pit, intense patriarchal control regarding female autonomy and dress, and cold elimination of child witnesses to avoid detection.
Pre-incident preparation, such as obtaining weapons or making structural property modifications (digging hidden pits), represents a critical indicator of premeditated domestic homicide. Unilateral control over family mobility and severe opposition to a partner seeking self-reliance are major escalation indicators.
Tahira's repeated distress over Farooq pulling their children out of school, his resentment towards her seeking employment, and his intense focus on her leaving the house without a burqa served as key warning signs.
Tahira's sudden silence, failure to contact her maternal family for over a week, and Farooq's contradictory claims regarding her whereabouts prompted her father and the village head to confront him.
Key evidence included three recovered bodies from the courtyard septic tank pit, a blood-stained wooden stick, and Farooq's direct site identification and confession.
Villagers and Tahira's father reported that Tahira had previously expressed concerns about Farooq's rigid mindset, refusal to allow her to work, and poor financial provision for their five children.
Initial reports of missing persons transformed into a triple homicide inquiry once police interrogated Farooq and conducted a targeted excavation at his residence.
Police continue investigating whether Farooq had additional motives beyond domestic dispute and strict socio-religious demands regarding attire.
