RelationWatch Research Brief #02
RW-RB-002
While Still Together: Violence and Serious Outcomes in Ongoing Relationships
Warning signs and serious outcomes in relationships that had not ended. Brief 02 uses the same fixed RelationWatch 1,000-case snapshot as Brief 01; it does not add new cases or represent population prevalence.
Based on the same 1,000 verified cases
Complement to Brief 01
OSINT-derived structured case data
How to read the complementary group
Of the 831 cases outside Brief 01’s separation/former-partner subset, 754 have another recorded relationship condition. The remaining 77 cases lack a usable relationship-status classification and are displayed separately rather than being treated as “together” or “non-separation.”
Other relationship context means: Recorded relationship contexts that do not fit the together, engaged, or separation/former-partner categories. This can include an affair, love triangle, one-sided or rejected relationship, or another recorded relationship context.
Recorded relationship conditions outside Brief 01
Counts among the 754 cases with a known, non-separation relationship condition.
Recorded incident outcomes by relationship condition
Each stacked bar shows outcomes within a recorded condition. These are case classifications, not causal pathways.
Countries represented in Brief 02’s analytical group
Country composition of the 754 cases with a known, non-separation relationship condition; this is not national prevalence.
Age at incident: victims and offenders / suspects
Recorded-person age distribution in Brief 02’s analytical group. Hover for the applicable denominator and percentage.
Recorded gender: victims and offenders / suspects
Comparison of recorded gender fields in Brief 02’s analytical group. Unknown and blank values remain visible.
Recorded pathway snapshots
These show the most common outcome recorded within each non-separation relationship condition in Brief 02.
672 Together → 519 Homicide
67 Other relationship context → 62 Homicide
15 Engaged → 10 Homicide
Each row is a condition-and-outcome intersection in the fixed snapshot. It does not establish that the relationship condition caused the outcome.
How Brief 02 accounts for the fixed snapshot
Brief 02 is the complement to the separation/former-partner analysis in Brief 01. It examines cases with another recorded relationship condition without combining them with cases that have no usable status classification.

- The charts in this Brief use the 754 cases with a known non-separation condition as their analytical group.
- “Other relationship context” is a documented classification, not a statement that the relationship was necessarily ongoing, safe, or without conflict.
- The 77 cases without a usable status are retained in the snapshot but are not assigned to Brief 01 or Brief 02’s substantive group.
